This is a custom order, negotiated since last December. I wasn’t completely sure if I wanted to accept the order as I have not made any doll that is larger than 20cm tall!
I present to you, Sai Baba, the Indian Saint. (I am not familiar of the story and background of the Saint, you should be able to find out more by searching on the web)
The buyer is very accommodating, understanding and patient, not just for the very long turnaround time, but also showing complete respect to the arena of my creativity.
Many times, we see and like an item. It catches our eyes instantly, we think it’s perfect, but we want to customize it further. Often, we get to the point that we revert back to ‘trained’ self as a result of today’s reality and society expectations. We tend to derail out of what we initially love about that product, and the changes we requested for would result in a completely different style of the specific designers.
This buyer is different and very clear of what to expect. Simply, I only need to make a cute version – inline with my other creations – of the Indian Saint.
This doll stands at around 42cm/16.5″ tall, I am able to include more details, such as toes, ears, and the adorable button nose.
As a comparison, the doll is nearly 3 times the size of the large (now not so large anymore) school sweethearts dolls; the Japanese Shintzu looks like a tiny person from the tiny kingdom!
I am quite pleased with the result.
